Ukraine cuts scrap metal exports 79% in 4 months

Interfax citing Mr Valentyn Kulychenko head of the Ukrainian Scrap Metal Association as saying that, Ukraine reduced scrap metal exports tentatively 78.7%YoY in January to April to 145,000 tonnes including 50,200 tonnes in April.

Mr Kulychenko said "Exports are limited by falling demand for metal. We are shipping more to Turkey and Moldova today. He said that metal prices have fallen 67.7% and scrap metal prices 66%-75% since August last year. In other words the situation on both markets is practically identical."

Mr Vasyl Kharakhulakh GD of the Metallurgprom association said at a conference of mining and metals industry bosses in Dnipropetrovsk that scrap deliveries to Ukrainian steel mills fell 25.5%YoY to 1.171 million tonnes in the four months including 260,000 tonnes in April. He said that steel mills received 63% of the scrap they required in April. Their stockpiles dwindled by 30,000 tonnes to 125,000 tonnes as of May 1st.
