Early April crude steel output rebounds: CISA

Crude steel output at key mills surveyed by the China Iron & Steel Association rebounded during the first ten days of April, ending the continuous declines witnessed throughout March.

Daily output during April 1-10 averaged 1.695 million metric tons/day, up 5% from late-March’s 1.613 million mt/d, according to data released by CISA on Monday. The late-March average was the lowest since late January 2013 and was blamed on the poor market, as Platts reported.

One Shanghai-based industry analyst said the output rebound was within expectations, as steelmakers are enjoying better profitability on slumping iron ore prices.
