CIS longs exporters continue to raise prices - 14 Dec 10

CIS longs suppliers keep lifting their prices in Azov-Black Sea basin and Europe, while to the other destinations they have been failing to push through the increase so far. Without a doubt, growing offers of ferrous scrap and semis as well as the fact that other regional suppliers, Turkish ones in particular, are pursuing the same policy are fair reasons for that. In particular, Turkish producers are quoting their rebar and wire rod at $630-640/t FOB and $640-650/t FOB respectively and intending to raise prices by another $5-10/t.
For example, only Belarus SW's rebar has been available to most buyers this week, while the distributors have been more active in the wire rod segment. Belarus SW has opened sales of January production of rebar announcing initial offers at $620-630/t FOB ($45-55/t up m-o-m).
ArcelorMittal Kriviy Rih has obviously decided to take a break, as only deals made at the beginning of December have been reported. In particular, rebar and wire rod have been sold to Syria at $600-605/t FOB and $610-620/t FOB, as well as rebar to Iraq – at $615-625/t FOB.
Metinvest International S.A., in turn, has raised quotations of wire rod to be produced in January to Middle East by $5-10/t, to $620-625/t FOB and some deals have been even reported at these levels. Quotations may go up by $10/t more next week. UPN beam of 80-200 mm from Petrovsky has been offered for export at $640/t FOB for three weeks.
There are only sporadic upturns in demand for the products at the Caspian Sea ports, while Russian mills are still quoting prices for wire rod at no higher than $625/t FOB. The latest bookings of January production from EvrazHolding have been reportedly made at $620/t FOB as well as of Petrovsky’s UPN beam of 80-200 mm – at $670-680/t FOB.
At the Far Eastern ports there have been no drastic changes either. Offers of wire rod of Russian origin are still coming at $605-610/t FOB ($630-635/t C&F). Evraz Holding has reportedly sold most of January rolling, while prices for February output have not been agreed yet.
In the EU market, Metinvest International S.A. is offering wire rod of January production to Romania at $635/t DAP, up $30/t m-o-m. The bids have been coming by $15/t lower. Prices for January rebar from ArcelorMittal Kriviy Rih have increased to this destination by EUR 55-60/t, to EUR 485/t DAP. Including currency fluctuations, the quotes have moved up by $51-58/t, to $640/t DAP at the exchange rate EUR 1= $1.32. Wire rod offers from the producer have added EUR 55-65/t ($50-64/t), and are at EUR 495/t ($653/t) DAP.
ArcelorMittal Kriviy Rih is offering wire rod to Bulgaria at EUR 500/t ($660/t) FOB Izmail, against EUR 460/t ($630/t, EUR 1= $1.37) FOB three weeks earlier. However, the prices are unworkable in this market, so Ukrainian products see no demand from Bulgarian buyers.
According to reports, rebar of January rolling from BMZ has been quoted at $460/t ($607/t) DAP to Poland.
