Weekly Analysis:
In the world market: The global market is in a slump. Iron ore prices fell by around $1 per tonne, billet demand remained weak, DRI price held steady despite Iran’s absence from the market, and scrap prices showed a downward trend. All these developments reflect demand-side pressures, which have intensified as demand has weakened considerably compared with previous weeks. Steelmakers’ profit margins worldwide have hit rock bottom, while raw material prices have little room to fall further. Freight and insurance costs are rising daily as oil prices continue to climb.
In the domestic market: In Iran domestic market, production is currently facing government-imposed restrictions. These constraints are being applied on two fronts: the commodity exchange, which is sharply curbing demand, and the Central Bank, which is tightening control over credit and lending facilities. As a result, the market is likely to face severe supply constraints in the coming weeks.
